SUMMARY:Bicycle Tree
DESCRIPTION:In Briefs: \n-Thursdays\, 5-9 PM! \n-Help us fix bikes to $ell
\n-Bring bikes back from the brink. \n \nThursday evenings from 5-9 PM
are when we battle the writhing mass of bikes occupying the yard. Not
only do we keep this unruly contingent from the landfill\, we then sell
the refurbished contraptions to fund the project! See the Saturday
listing or groups.myspace.com/thebicycletree for a broader description.
Not a studly know-it-all bike mechanic? Just plain bike ignorant? Not a
problem! All battles need their pawns... With time\, maybe you can
become a tank or go-bot! Bring your bayonets\, we have all the other
tools. We'll inform those who might care and wrap your coffin in a flag
if you are one of the fallen.

SUMMARY:Long Beach Solar Home Bike Tour
DESCRIPTION:This free tour has many faucets for public interested in
joining. We will not only learn about solar power\, but how to be more
energy efficient with our resources available. Information will be
available regarding planting native plants\, composting\, recycling and
more. We request that everyone joining us\, and is not a Long Beach
local\, to use public transportation to get to the start of the ride.
The ride\, as always\, will start at a Blue Line station and end at a
Blue Line station. The experience for some riding public transportation
for the first time is one surprised as to how easy it is. We have had in
the past riders that were amazed how easy it was to use two buses to get
from the far reaches of OC. The secret is to plan ahead. We had 100%
compliance for this request last year. Hopefully we'll have the same
results this year. \n \nThe starting point is at the Bike Station\, 221
First Street Long Beach\, CA 90802 The Blue Line runs from 5 am to 12:16
am heading North\, and greater hours heading South. \n \nTips to make
your trip easier\; \n \n* Plan your trip before the Oct 7th\, have it
down what you need to do. \n* Use the link here to plan your trip. Try
the advanced link at the bottom right of the page too. \n* This is a
casual ride\, plan on riding about 25 miles with stops spaced 4-5 miles
apart. \n* Elevation change is minimal. \n* Take either the 1 st. or
Transit Mall stop on the Blue Line to get to the start \n \nThe American
Solar Energy Society's National Solar opens thousands of homes and
buildings throughout the country to provide the public with an
opportunity to experience solar power\, solar heating\, cooling\, and
hot-water\, wind power\, daylighting\, and green building technologies.
Visit a tour and learn energy efficiency strategies and methods\, speak
with homeowners and experts\, and learn how the technology works\, what
it costs\, and why it makes sense. These are “Real Places for Real
People” that show real solutions for energy independence\, places
  contributing to a sustainable energy economy. \n \nSOUNDWALK 2006 \n
\nVery special treat this year will be the annual SoundWalk happening on
the same day as the ride. On October 6 th and 7 th\, the Long Beach
artist group\, FLOOD\, will present SoundWalk 2006. This event will
feature returning artists as well as new participants from the Southland
and the International sound art and multi media scene. The event kicks
off Friday evening with performances by sound artists\, presented in a
theatrical forum. Saturday's event operates under the concept of a
one-night aural/visual experience as provided by a walking-tour of sound
installations located in various indoor and outdoor spaces situated
throughout the East Village Arts District in Downtown Long Beach. Both
  days will be from 5 pm - 10 pm. \n \n
